Housed in the historic 1893 Columbia Mill textile building, the “biggest artifact,” the South Carolina State Museum tells the history of South Carolina through many traveling museum exhibits, permanent collections, and educational programs. Guests are invited to see four floors of interconnected, fascinating exhibits on South Carolina history, art, natural history, science and technology.

Explore the universe in the state-of-the-art Observatory and 55ft digital dome Plantarium, where you can journey to the farthest reaches of the galaxy, revel in spectacular laser shows and more. Plus, take your movie-going experience to new levels in the 4D Theater where you can enjoy 3D movies enhanced with physical features, including water sprayers, leg ticklers, air blasters, vibrating seats and other surprises.
