Della Mae, a GRAMMY-nominated, all-women string band, has captivated audiences worldwide with their dynamic performances and mission-driven music. Comprised of founder and fiddle player Kimber Ludiker, lead vocalist/guitarist Celia Woodsmith, guitarist Avril Smith, and bassist Vickie Vaughn, this acclaimed group has traveled to over 30 countries, sharing their message of empowerment and unity through their blend of bluegrass, Americana, and roots music. Formed in Boston in 2009, Della Mae’s goal was clear from the start: to elevate women’s voices in a genre traditionally dominated by men. Their name itself serves as a statement, reclaiming the narrative of “Della Mae” often portrayed in bluegrass songs as a victim, and transforming her story into one of resilience and strength.

Della Mae’s fourth album, Headlight, released in 2020, marked a bold evolution for the band, expanding their sonic range with collaborations from Nashville musicians and exploring themes of courage, perseverance, and social change. Inspired by pivotal moments such as Dr. Christine Blasey Ford’s Senate testimony, Headlight is both personal and powerful, addressing women’s experiences with unfiltered honesty. Produced by Dan Knobler and recorded at Sound Emporium Studios, the album features an adventurous mix of instrumentation, adding keys, drums, and electric guitar to their sound. Beyond their music, Della Mae advocates for women and girls through mentorship, advocacy, and international programs, working with the U.S. State Department to improve opportunities for women worldwide.
