Gervais Street Bridge Dinner

Sunday, May 2, 2021 @ 4:00 pm

One of the Midlands’ most popular events has been scheduled for late spring. The Gervais Street Bridge Dinner, which was canceled in 2020, now is planned for Sunday, May 2.

The dinner has already received approval from the City of West Columbia, now the City of Columbia will need to also provide approval at the council meeting March 16.

The event has transferred ownership from Soda City Friends to new nonprofit Carolina Together. Carolina Together Executive Director Stephanie Amaker said they don’t have any reason to anticipate push back from City of Columbia. However, if the event were disapproved for any reason, Amaker said it would still take place on the West Columbia half of the bridge.

“After a crazy year of 2020, it feels nice to actually have the date set in stone,” she said. “We feel confident that it will be a safe opportunity for Midlands residents to experience the fun that the Gervais Street Bridge Dinner has to offer.”

Unlike the setup pre-COVID, individual tickets will not be available. Instead of buying a ticket for one seat, the cost will be per table (with eight seats per table). “It’s going to be a limited capacity, more so than it has before,” said Amaker.

Temperature checks will be held upon entry. As of now, masks will be required when guests are not actively eating or drinking.

The three-course meal will be provided by Southern Way Catering. There will also be live music to entertain the crowds. Sponsors will be able to arrive at 3 p.m. and general admission will be at 4 p.m.

Tickets are not yet available for purchase, according to Amaker. Updates will be provided on the Gervais Street Bridge Dinner’s new Facebook page.

Amaker said they’re considering the May bridge dinner to be the “make-up” event after having been canceled in 2020. An additional Gervais Street Bridge Dinner is also being planned for October. No official date has been set yet.
