One of the first artists signed by legendary Stax records, William Bell’s song “You Don’t Miss Your Water (Until Your Well Runs Dry)” helped to establish the label as a pioneer in Soul music. Bell worked alongside greats like Otis Redding, Chuck Berry, and Booker T. Jones, with whom he co-wrote “Born Under A Bad Sign,” a song that has been covered by everyone from Jimi Hendrix to Homer Simpson. Bell’s #1 R&B hit “Tryin’ to Love Two,” and UK Top 10 duet “Private Number” with Judy Clay helped to define Beach music. Hip Hop artists from Kanye West to Ludacris have sampled Bell’s songs in their work, proving his continued influence on the music industry. Bell has won almost every major award for Soul music including the R&B Pioneer award, the W.C. Handy Heritage award, the BMI Songwriters Award and the Epitome of Soul Award. Proving that he is still at the top of his game, Bell’s 2016 release “This is Where I Live” won a Grammy® for Best Americana Album.
