The Governor’s Cup Road Race is excited to announce that the event will be moving to a date in the early spring. The 2020 Governor’s Cup will take place on February 21-22. In recent years the event has been held in May, and warmer than ideal conditions have been experienced. The Event Committee that manages the Governor’s Cup is committed to providing an outstanding race experience for participants of all types, ranging from world class half-marathoners to kids who are experiencing their first organized running event. It is a challenge to serve a very diverse clientele with a running event that takes place on the streets of Columbia, West Columbia and Cayce and that includes an evening event on Main Street. But our Event Committee works year-around to design and deliver a running event that lives up to the proud history of the Governor’s Cup.
Since 2014 we have adopted some major modifications that we believe have markedly enhanced the event. These include the Main Street Mile, Kids’ Main Street Mile, a new half-marathon course that traverses the Congaree River bridges, a flat 5K course that routes through Columbia’s historic neighborhoods, a Corporate Challenge, a festive finish line environment, and the Spirit Corps that supports our runners on all corners of the courses. All of these activities will move, intact, to our new early spring dates. The Governor’s Cup is Columbia’s iconic running event, and 2020 will bring the 48th Annual Cup. Through its long history the Governor’s Cup has evolved in numerous ways, and 2020 will bring even more innovation. We hope you will join us on February 21-22!!
