Fall Favorites

September 16, 2019

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Fall is my favorite time of year; the weather is perfect.  The days are warm and the nights are cool.  With three kids it’s hard to make my way to all of my favorite things to do during the season, but here’s my list to share. Hope you can find time while you’re visiting or if you’re local now’s the time to check out a few new spots.

Dinner at Home Team

It’s football season and barbecue season. Home team, a new restaurant that opened in the Five Points area of Columbia, is booming. The barbecue, brisket and ribs are fabulous!  Ask for the white sauce and be sure to order their signature drink, the Game Changer.  It will definitely change up your night.

Sunset Cruise on Lake Murray

Even though the summer season is over, Lake Murray is beautiful throughout the year and the fall sunsets are alluring. I recently learned from a wise man that as days grow shorter, the skies at sunset glow with the most spectacular hues of pinks, reds and oranges. Find a way to get out there, rent a boat from one of our suggested suppliers or plan a sunset tour on a captained yacht! Check out the photo I took last week; I know you’ll agree it’s stunning!

Pick Your Pumpkin at the Farm

There’s just something special about taking the family to pick out your pumpkin for the porch and picking it from a local farm is the best. Head to my favorite spot, Lever Farms in Pomaria. Besides pumpkin picking, they have fun games around the farm that will entertain your crew. I love the hayride around the property and the fall photo ops.

Event You Don’t Want to Miss

Weekends are busy but if I had the time, I would visit all of these upcoming annual fall events that make our region shine…Columbia’s Greek Festival, the Irmo Okra Strut, Oktoberfest in Newberry, the 150thBirthday celebration of the SC State Fair, Newberry Harvest Festival at Enoree River Winery and Boo at the Zoo.  Considering adding a few of these to your fall.  Hope you will add them to your calendar, and post your photos with the hashtag VisitLakeMurray.

Happy fall ya’ll…stop by and see us at the Lake Murray Country Visitors Center, 2184 North Lake Drive, Columbia.
