Two-days of Young Adult Adventures in Lake Murray Country

Kelly Hughes is the Marketing & Communications Manager at Capital City/Lake Murray Country. She is a recent graduate of the University of South Carolina and is always looking for fun things to do with friends in the region. “This region is beautiful and full of life. I want people of my generation to explore more of the opportunities Lake Murray Country has to offer!” Kelly loves spending time outside, shopping, trying new food and drinks, and exploring fun places. This itinerary takes you to many gram-worthy spots where you and your friends can spice up your social media pages during your #Playcation trip.

Day 1

Shop at Soda City Market

Spend the morning on Main Street to support local artists and thrift at Soda City. Take some time to check out the vendors, selling everything from fresh produce to handmade jewelry, and vintage clothing. Grab some food while you’re there, like a sweet or savory treat at the Belgian Waffle Truck.

Hours: Sat., 9 AM – 1 PM
Address: 1300-1600 Main St, Columbia, SC 29201
Website: sodacitysc.com

Tour the Columbia Museum of Art

While you’re on Main Street, dedicate some time to browsing the exhibitions that touch on fashion, history, photography, music, and more. Make sure you’re dressed your best to snap some artsy and aesthetic pics around the exhibits.

Hours: Sun., 10 AM – 5 PM, Tues. – Sat., 10 AM – 5 PM
Address: 1515 Main Street, Columbia, SC 29201

Wine Tasting at Enoree River Winery

It’s a bit of a drive, but that’s part of the fun! Tour the grounds of the Enoree River Winery, and taste a selection of their wine. Explore the vineyard’s photographic charm or capture a more classy moment during your wine tasting.

Hours: Thurs. – Sat., 12 – 6 PM, Sun., 2 – 6 PM

Day 2

Brunch at The Gourmet Shop

Start the Sunday off right with a delicious breakfast bowl and a peach bellini from The Gourmet Shop. I recommend getting there early– it’s a hot spot in the late morning/early afternoon, and tables go fast.

Hours: Daily, 9 AM – 4 PM
Address: 724 Saluda Ave, Columbia, SC 29205

Hike at Peachtree Rock Heritage Preserve

In a world filled with screens and smartphones, refresh your body and mind with some time outdoors and local history. The Peachtree Rock Heritage Preserve offers a very fulfilling hiking experience with the opportunity to observe the natural oddity that is Little Peachtree Rock.

Hours: Daily, 7 AM – 7 PM
Address: 883 Peachtree Rock Rd, Lexington, SC 29073
Phone: (803) 254-9049

Stop by Wingard’s Market

To finish up your trip in Lake Murray Country, swing by Wingard’s Market. Wingard’s offers a wide selection of produce and gifts, so there’s something for everyone who stops in. Shop for houseplants, fresh flowers, fruits and vegetables, t-shirts, skincare, and more. Get yourself a souvenir to remind you of your weekend visit to the area.

Hours: Mon.-Fri., 9 AM – 6 PM, Sat., 9 AM – 5 PM, Closed Sunday
Address: 1403 N Lake Dr, Lexington, SC 29072

Watch the sunset at the Lake Murray Dam

Finally, you can sit back, relax, and watch the gorgeous amber sunset over Lake Murray from the Irmo public park site (and get some golden hour pictures while you can– trust me, the lighting is perfect). The sunset typically falls around 8/8:30 PM during the summer, so get there with time to spare.

Hours: 24/7
Address: 2101 North Lake Drive Columbia, SC 29212
