From Lexington to Newberry

Vickie Davis is the Vice President of Special Events and Funding at Capital City/Lake Murray Country and mother to 3 teenage children. “As a mom of 3, I want my family to have fun while getting some sort of exercise whether it is physical or mental, so here is my suggestion for a family day in our region with teenagers exploring Lexington and Newberry, South Carolina.” Her real-life recommendation is to not include them in the planning (they are teens and will disagree with you on everything) and to make the most of the car ride with fun and profound conversational topics (your days in the car with them are limited once they start driving). Check out her teen #Playcation itinerary!

Park amenities include: Tree-shaded oasis, koi ponds, gardens & a creek with scenic overlooks.

The menu boasts everything from traditional Irish fare like corned beef and cabbage to pub burgers. Make sure to stop at O’Hara’s Bakery just a few doors down and pick up something sweet!

Show time at the Newberry Opera House

After lunch, we head to picturesque downtown Newberry. About a 45-minute drive from Lexington. Downtown has many shops, boutiques, restaurants, and the historic Newberry Opera House. Built-in 1881, the Opera House hosts national touring shows. We love the intimacy and small town charm while we’re there. Check out their season and get your tickets in advance!

Dessert at Laila's Place
