Itineraries Winter Weekend Getaway in Lake Murray Country

While the weather outside might be frightful, there are plenty of exciting times to be had in Lake Murray Country during the winter season. In this two-day itinerary, we’ve curated a mix of winter outdoor adventures and cozy indoor escapes, ensuring that your chilly getaway to the Midlands is filled with memorable experiences.

Day 1

Hotel Trundle

Check into the Hotel Trundle in downtown Columbia for a cozy and historic boutique experience. Located just off of Main Street, it’s the ideal spot for your overnight stay.

Di Vino Rosso

Head to Di Vino Rosso for a warm Italian dinner in The Vista. Known for its wood-fired pizzas and pastas, you can indulge in a filling and comforting meal on a winter evening, perfectly paired with a delicious glass of wine.

Robinson Room

After dinner, embark on a crisp stroll down Main Street. Looking for local late night vibes? Grab a nightcap at Robinson Room, a buzzing tapas restaurant known for its inventive cocktails, like Sherry’s Secret and Grown Up in a Cup. Don’t worry about staying out too late–Robinson Room is only a two minute walk from the hotel!

Day 2

The Gourmet Shop

Start the day with a hearty breakfast at The Gourmet Shop in Five Points. Savor delicious brunch items like the Bagels with Lox and Breakfast Sandwiches. Take some time after eating to explore the selection of fine cheeses, wine, cookware, and more!

Congaree National Park

Bundle up for a winter hike at Congaree National Park. The boardwalk trail is peaceful and scenic, even in the colder months, and it’s a great place to enjoy nature’s beauty. Be sure to stop inside their Visitors Center to grab a map and learn about the wildlife you may see while you explore the park.

Steel Hands Brewing

After your hike, enjoy some lunch and local beer at Steel Hands Brewing in Cayce. Beyond the brews, they have an amazing food menu featuring Fried Pickles and Bang Bang Shrimp, even a Blackened Mahi Sandwich.

Cayce River Arts District & Piecewise Coffee

Just one mile from the brewery is the Cayce River Arts District. Spend the afternoon exploring vibrant murals and unique sculptures. Take a break in Piecewise Coffee Co. for a locally brewed coffee to recharge yourself before the evening. We recommend warming up with a Crème Brûlée Latte or any of their seasonal drink items.

Motor Supply Co.

For dinner, enjoy a unique culinary experience at Motor Supply Co. Bistro in Columbia’s historic Vista District. With an emphasis on fresh, locally-sourced ingredients, their menu changes frequently but always offers a comforting yet elevated Southern meal.

Ending the weekend

After dinner, opt for one last exciting activity with either bowling at The Grand on Main or video games at Transmission Arcade! If you’re looking to just kick back and relax, we suggest catching a flick at The Nickelodeon or checking out the jazz scene at Chayz Lounge in West Columbia!
