Columbia, S.C. — Let’s join together as a community to celebrate America’s birthday on Lake Murray! The Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board (CCLMC) is proud to host the 37th annual Lake Murray’s Independence Day Celebration on Saturday, June 28, presented by Lexington Medical Center.

South Carolina’s largest fireworks show will take place at dark, approximately 9:30 p.m., from two lake locations, Spence and Dreher Island. The show is synchronized to patriotic music that will air simultaneously on 93.1 The Lake through Midlands Media Group. Join us at Dreher Island State Park where 93.1 The Lake will be broadcasting the synchronized music for the fireworks and entertaining the crowd. Want to watch the fireworks show from the comfort of your home? WIS News 10 will have a live stream of the fireworks show on their website.

The best place for the public to view the fireworks is either by boat on the lake or at Dreher Island State Park, located at 3677 State Park Road, Prosperity, SC 29127. All normal fees will apply at Dreher Island State Park for parking and entry: $3 (per adult), $1.50 (adults 65 years and older), and $1 (ages 6-15).

The Independence Day Celebration fireworks are funded each year through Capital City/Lake Murray Country’s fundraising efforts at Taste of Lake Murray, private donations, and the support of the following sponsors: Lexington Medical Center, Dominion Energy, First Community Bank, Palm Beach Tan, Bentley Pontoons, US FOODS, DoubleTree by Hilton Columbia, Trevett’s, and Tidewater Boats. Donations can be made year-round on our website through our symbolic “Adopt-a-Firework” initiative*, or in-person at the Lake Murray Country Visitors Center (2184 North Lake Drive, Columbia, SC 29212). *This is a symbolic donation and does not provide ownership of a physical firework.

Should thunder and lightning occur and cause a postponement, the fireworks will take place on Sunday, June 29. For more information about Lake Murray’s Independence Day Celebration including parking info, please visit: LakeMurrayFireworks.com.

The Independence Day Celebration kicks off CCLMC’s “Spirit of Americana” celebration featuring a variety of patriotic events around the region.

Following Lake Murray’s Independence Day Celebration, Lake Murray Country is hosting the Grand Finish of the Great Race classic car rally. Join us at Moore Park (formerly Irmo Community Park) in Irmo, South Carolina, on June 29, 2025 to witness the finale of America’s most prestigious vintage automobile rally. This highly anticipated event marks the Grand Finish of the 2025 Great Race, a long-distance rally that begins in Minnesota and ends right here in the Lake Murray region. This free, family-friendly event is a must-see for antique car lovers and automobile enthusiasts of all kinds. Thousands will gather to admire an incredible lineup of vintage vehicles, including century-old cars, muscle cars, classic hot rods, and high-end sports cars. Spectators will have close-up access to the historic cars, their drivers, and navigators—offering a rare opportunity to connect with automotive history.

Other patriotic celebrations happening in the region include: Lexington County Peach Festival; Harper Street Bike Parade; and the Fort Jackson Independence Day Fireworks Celebration.

The annual Patriotic Boat Parade on Lake Murray will not take place this year due to the ongoing construction at the Dreher Shoals Dam.

Please note: Lake Murray’s Independence Day Celebration is taking place as planned on Saturday, June 28, 2025, on Lake Murray in South Carolina. This event should not be confused with the cancelled Lake Murray Fireworks and Music Fest held in San Diego, California. While both lakes share the same name, they are entirely separate locations. Be sure to join us June 28, 2025 on Lake Murray for the largest fireworks show in South Carolina!
