Capital City/Lake Murray Country Regional Tourism Board is partnering up with the Columbia Fireflies for a competitive food event like no other – Friday, June 14, and Saturday, June 15, 2024.
The two-day event opens on Friday, June 14 with South Carolina night. Attendees will be able to sample the South Carolina BBQ chicken wing competition, engage in interactive exhibits, cheer on the team for the home plate prizes, and shag the night away to the Band of OZ! On Saturday, June 15, 30 BBQ teams from across the competition BBQ world will cook and provide samples. Attendees are encouraged to arrive in time to watch celebrity chefs preparing for the final stage presentation. Celebrity judges will be on hand for the grand finale and the presentation of the awards, along with the event’s Emcee, Mark Conway of Mark Conway Media. The two-day event ends with a Country Music Concert & fireworks finale.
“Our team is so excited to welcome in all of the competitors for the Southeastern BBQ showdown, and we can’t wait for Segra Park to be filled with all of the wonderful smells that come with a BBQ cooking competition. What could possibly be better than combining award-winning BBQ with great music and some ice-cold beverages to kick off the summer,” said Brad Shank, President of Columbia Fireflies Baseball.
Capitalizing on the momentum of sending 3 South Carolina teams to the World Food Championships (WFC), hosting the WFC Final Table Event, and Food and Travel naming Lake Murray Country a “Top Southern Summer Destination” for the eclectic flavors of the region – CCLMC developed a grand slam National BBQ competition event for Columbia, S.C. The Southeastern BBQ Showdown will pit the best of the best in the national competitive BBQ scene. Teams will compete during the 2-day ticketed event which will culminate with an A-list Country Music concert and fireworks show finale.
About The Southeastern BBQ Showdown:
The first-ever Southeastern BBQ Showdown coming to Segra Park on June 14-15, 2024. This event will be the first of its kind, setting a precedent as the “first food sport competition to be held in a sports stadium in the United States.” The ticketed event is open to the public and will include a vendor expo, shag music, food tastings, a Country Music concert, a fireworks show, an appearance from Mason the Firefly, and much more.
