The longest total solar eclipse on the East Coast in a metro area will be in Columbia, S.C., on August 21, 2017 at 2:41 p.m. "Close" is not close enough!

Columbia, S.C., is already known internationally as one of the top destinations in the world for viewing the total solar eclipse on August 21, 2017. Throughout the long weekend of August 18-21, 2017, attractions, cultural institutions, hospitality and retail businesses in Columbia, S.C. -- the total solar eclipse capital of the East Coast -- will host special eclipse-related events leading up to nature's grandest spectacle. At 2:41 p.m. on August 21, 2017, viewers who have gathered in the greater Columbia, S.C., area will experience up to 2 minutes and 36 seconds of totality -- the longest period of 100% total eclipse on the entire East Coast of the United States.

Solar 17 at Lake Murray

Be sure to come experience Solar 17 at Lake Murray on Monday, August 21st!  Lake Murray will have the largest viewing area.  This event will take place at both park sites of Lake Murray Dam (Lexington and Irmo sides.)  Click HERE for more details.

Solar Eclipse 2017 at the SC State Museum 

The SC State Museum will be hosting an fun-filled  weekend of solar eclipse related events leading up to a special opportunity to view the eclipse at the museum. Activities include telescope tours, planetarium shows, viewing from Boeing Observatory and much more.  Click HERE for more details. 

Columbia Fireflies’ Total Eclipse of the Park

Celebrate Total Eclipse Weekend with the Fireflies as they take on the Rome Braves that Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday at Spirit Communications Park. There will be post-game fireworks. On Monday, August 21st, join them for Total Eclipse of the Park at 1:05pm. Click HERE for more details. 

Star Wars Musiclipse

A special presentation of music from the Star Wars saga sets the scene for darkness' reign over daylight during Total Eclipse Weekend in Columbia!  Presented by the South Carolina Philharmonic.  Click HEREfor more details.

Guided Historical Walking Tours

Walking tours, which are based on site archaeology, are led by professional guides trained by the National Park Service that talk about South Carolina’s rich history surrounding the Civil and Revolutionary war eras.  Click HERE for more details.

Eclipse Geocaching Cointrail

The eclipse cointrail will launch on Saturday, August 19th with an event to be held at the Convention Center.   Once you have found each geocache and stamped your “passport” you will receive a trackable geocoin customized for the Columbia eclipse experience.  Click HERE for more details. 

Eclipse Eve Drive-In Movie

We will be hosting an old fashion Drive-In Movie night at the Historic Columbia Speedway festival grounds. We will show an educations short on the history of eclipse. Followed by a great family film.  Click HERE for more details.
